In this ½ day program you will have the opportunity to “tour” six innovative rural and urban transition pilots (school to work) that involved inclusive community service and employment. You will gain insights into how CTAT’s Youth Corps Project (YCP), funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), became a thriving success and see how you can apply these ideas in your own community.
For three successful years CTAT was honored to have the opportunity to support the development of programs in six communities – some rural, some urban – in braving the challenges of transition (school to work). Funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) this project was highlighted by integrating youth in community service and by facilitating professionals in collaborating within existing systems. CTAT, well known for our highly engaging and rich training programs, will bring the experiences from these six community models to you through presentation and story telling.
You will examine the challenges and successes we and our staff faced during these pilot programs and consider how our experiences can be applicable to your setting. We will close with an activity that empowers conversation and sharing as you consider how you might bring some of these processes to your own community.
We will discuss strategies in recruiting and educating volunteer sites, collaborating with and educating school personnel, outreach and education for families, recruiting and educating potential employers, and utilizing other community resources such as universities and community colleges.
